love it, live it: item inspired interior, 50's dining room

 

I generally mix it up a little more, but this dining room is pretty much all 50's.  Ideally, I would have loved to put in a turquoise lacquer sideboard, but could not find one.  However, since the Italian Chandi is the star of the room, I think this Moroccan inspired sideboard in a rich walnut does just fine.  Two pieces are vintage 50's and the rest are new but stay true to the style.

interior (& fashion) goodness: "magic city"

After seeing the previews for Magic City, I was immediately struck by the handsomeness of the cast, and then I finally watched it.  The men are suave and debonair and the ladies are tres chic in stunning, classic dresses, they are both gorgeous and sexy.  My love of the 50's is not just for the fashion and music, it is for the interior fabulousness as well.  And Miami in the 50's was no exception...glitz, glam and uber cool prevailed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 There are not a lot of images available on Google of this hot show, so I highly recommend checking it out, if not for the interiors, for the fashion (a time when ladies dressed like ladies and men dressed like men), oh and the cars!

dining in: pasta with avocado & arugula pesto

A delish pasta dish, tangy, zippy and easy!  The original recipe is from Giada De Laurentiis on Food Network.  I substituted lemon for lime and added red pepper flakes for a little  heat.

 

Pasta with Avocado and Arugula Pesto

 

1# pasta

2 medium avocados

3 C arugula

1 C basil, packed

3 T lemon

2 cloves garlic

Pinch of sea salt

½ tsp. ground black pepper

Pinch of red pepper flakes

1 C grated Parmesan cheese

1 T extra virgin olive oil

 

Cook pasta. 

 

While pasta is cooking blend avocado through Parmesan in a food processor.  Blend until smooth.  Drizzle in olive oil to loosen up pesto a bit.

 

Add pesto to cooked pasta.  You can add a little pasta water to loosen up sauce a bit more, I did not need to using Bow Tie pasta, but long skinny pastas would definitely benefit from the addition of pasta water.

It started with the rug, Jaipur City Miami White & Sun Orange Hand Tufted Wool Rug at Layla Grayce.  The Moroccan lattice design is not only exotic, but in the orange and white colorway it is Miami mod as well.  Add some brass, glass, tufts and chiffon to strengthen the mod factor.  Now for a shot of boho; toss in rustic wood, teal ceramic, kilims and a little zebra, and you get a fun, vibrant and chic parlour.

The star player of the Ingmar Lounge is the Ingmar Chair from Jonathan Adler.  Mid Century style meets Scandinavian comfort!  I wanted to keep the rest of the room sorta simple, but it is a lounge after all, a little swank was necessary.

interior goodness: donat malibu ranch by kathryn m. ireland

A superstar in the design world, Kathryn Ireland's California Coastal meets English Country, as well as other international influences, a style that never misses.  The Malibu home of Lucas and Traci Donat is full of happy, vivid color and pattern.  The walls may be white, but this home is so alive!
