love it, live it: item inspired sexy mod dining room

This Sexy Mod Dining Room Style Board was inspired by the Koi Table I discovered on KOKET.  It is a glam mod table with organic, yet clean lines made of brass and marble.  The walls are a matte black with a touch of gold to add warmth and extra depth.  With the darkness of the walls I wanted a few pops of color, and of course texture, to create an intimate, sexy, mod, glam dining space.

valentines schmalentines, self love baby

Around this time every year, I feel a little restless.  There are a few contributing factors;   a new year, wacky weather (68° today, 37° and snow this coming Saturday),  spring/summer fashion spreads in magazines when it is seriously still winter, and lastly, Valentines Day.  So what does one do with such a variety of mind boggling life and style factors?  Easy, focus on oneself, self love, if you will.

Let's start with the big one, V-day.  I love the concept of Valentines Day, because I love love, but sadly it has become an empty, even phony holiday.  Yes, I am single, but this, in no way has an influence on my anti V-day feelings.  In the past while in relationships, I did not partake in the V-day nonsense.  Why?  Because I believe in 365 days of romance and passion, not one day of forced mushy sentiment with goofy gifts.  I will, someday, have a man in my life who will happily reap the awesome rewards of the 365 day love fest!

I realize that there are some single gals out there that do not feel the same way as I.  To them V-day is a big deal, but hear me out.  Instead of slipping on the flannel jammy pants and never taking them off, even to go to the store to by wine, (please nobody wants to see that), because you don't have a Valentine, be your own Valentine.  Focus on you; your look and style should be for yourself first, because if you don't love yourself, it is even harder to find someone else to love you...and buy yourself something fabulous, like shoes, not a stuffed animal that comes with a heart shaped pendant.

I am in my forties, I personally have never been happier with my self at any other age, than I have been in my forties.  I take care of myself; I workout, eat well with the occasional junk fix from time to time, and I have a style, my style.  I am confident in who I am and what I do, as an Interior Stylist I damn well better be!

But there are times when my style wains, it doesn't break, it just hits a speed bump, and it is always this time of year.  You workout, you look good, you feel good, but you are hidden under layers upon layers of clothes.  So you look at fashion magazines for a little inspiration, but it is so not skirt and sandal season yet.  Boredom, confusion, and style rut frustration set in...AGAIN, STEP AWAY FROM THE FLANNEL PANTS!
Seriously, I love flannel, especially on a man in the form of a shirt, but when the winter style blahs set in, flannel is not your friend, even in the privacy of your own home.  There are plenty of cute loungey pants available out there, sweater knit leggings are a fave of mine!  So if your favorite fashion magazines are just teasing you with fashion for warmer weather, why not focus on your look; hair, skin, beauty, etc.

When I hit style speed bump, I turn to my style and beauty icon is none other than the super sex kitten of the 50's, 60's and 70's Brigette Bardot for a shot of inspiration.  She could be stunningly beautiful, playfully cute or bombshell sexy!  The bedhead hair, makeup that is done but not overdone; no matter what look she was sporting, one thing is undeniable, she was always confident.  Confidence in and of itself is sexy.  Thank you BB.

thanks a lot google

So I had a great post today. I spent a few hours writing, editing, etc.  I finally finished and was ready to post pictures, but apparently we blogger's who use non-Google search engines are being punished, we can no longer upload pictures.  The only solution that might work is to use Chrome, by Google.  So I decided to download Chrome, because what is a blog without pictures.  Well, something happened during the downloading process, because I returned back to my blog to save my post and guess what...this wasn't the post I originally wrote today!

Nor is this one of the pictures!

dining in: spicy chicken italian sausage bolognese

One of my fave, and quick dishes for unexpected company, is my Bolognese.  It is a little different in that I use Chicken Italian Sausage instead of ground chicken or beef.  It takes a little over an hour to prepare so it is great for a last minute supper, but it tastes even better as leftovers a couple of days later.

Spicy Chicken Italian Sausage Bolognese
serves 2-3

½ T olive oil
¼ onion, chopped
1 medium carrot, finely chopped
1-2 cloves of garlic, crushed
½ # sweet or spicy chicken Italian sausage
Chili flakes, you decide how spicy you want your Bolognese
½ tsp. Italian seasoning
8 oz. tomato sauce
3 oz. tomato paste (freeze the remaining 3 oz.)
¼ C red wine
Bay leaf
S & P to taste
Fresh parsley
8 oz. pasta, shape of choice
Grated Parmesan cheese

Add olive oil to a warm 10-12 inch skillet.  Saute onion and carrot until onion is transparent.  Add garlic and cook for about 1 min.  Add sausage, breaking up while stirring occasionally.  Add spices, sauce, paste and wine, stir until well combined.  Add bay leaf, cover and simmer on low for one hour, stirring occasionally.

Cook pasta. Remove bay leaf and add parsley.  To serve, combine cooked pasta with a portion of the sauce, then top each serving with remaining sauce and Parmesan.

Enjoy!

love it, live it: item inspired simple n' sexy bedroom

I squealed with delight when I first saw the CB2 Alchemy Shiny Brass Bed; it's clean lined, retro and glam.  Following in my belief that a master bedroom should be simple and sexy with texture, this one hits on all points.  I chose a deep and rich matte paint, one that will enhance the shine of the furnishings, NOT compete.
