love it, live it: item inspired lounge, williams-sonoma seymour bar cabinet

After seeing the Seymour (faux shagreen) Bar Cabinet on the cover of the Williams-Sonoma lookbook, I knew I had to do a lounge for it!  A little glam, a little retro, and a lot of  "oh yeah!", this is a lounge to sit back and stay awhile in...

love it, live it: item inspired interior, west elm stella bed

I was cruising my favorite furniture sites for new pieces and I came across the fabulous Stella Metal Bed from West Elm.  The spindle design may be traditional, but the brass finish definitely injects a bit of mod glam.  This bedroom is glammishly serene with its texture, clean lines and a clean color palette.

love it, live it: item inspired dining room, anthropologie grassland stripe dining chair

A quick Style Board to close the week out.  Anthropologie has so many fabulous pieces right now, I jumped back to their site and chose the Grassland Striped Dining Chair for this week's inspiration.  With rich colors, a glossy wall and plenty of other textures, this dining room is glam and sexy.

love it, live it: item inspired interior, anthro slub velvet edlyn sectional

HELLO!  I have been lost in Bra-Bra Land (more on that later), and felt the need to see what is happening in my other favorite world of home furnishings.  My first stop was Anthropologie, and I SQUEALED with joy when I laid eyes on Edlyn!  I am very picky about sofas, and men, very, especially when it comes to sectionals, and men as well.  Edlyn has clean, sexy lines and is dressed in velvet.  Not your standard colors of velvet, but gorgeous, sexy, rich hues.  So naturally, Edlyn inspired the first Love It, Live It Style Board in over a month.  Clean lines, a touch of masculinity, plenty of texture and just plain sexy...

love it, live it: inspired interior; if Sinatra had a loft

I was inspired this week by two things; industrial loft's and Mr. Sinatra.  Frank's favorite color was orange and he wasn't just the Chairman of the Board, but of the Mid-Century...

love it, live it: Greece inspired lounge style board

This week's Style Board was inspired by a photo of Greece.  White buildings, lotsa blues, pink bougainvillea's, and a laid back comfy vibe with a fair amount of texture.  Bright yet tranquil, and always inviting.

ikea hack: nornäs nailhead cocktail table

This nifty lil number is for a client's family room, it is the Nornäs cocktail table from IKEA. I covered the top with Duck Cloth which looks lineny, and can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth. A few nail heads around the edge and a paint color wash; 1 part paint to 2 parts water brushed on then wiped off with a cotton rag.

cocktail table styling

The cocktail table is one of the most important surfaces in a home, but one of the most difficult to style for a client.  Why?  Because "things", "stuff", "chotskies" if you will, are personal.  If you aren't sure, start with basics; white vases (with or without flowers), simple glass votive candles, a decorative tray, and then it gets personal...

Books are great for stacking to create dimension on the table, but they clearly need to be books that you are interested in.  I have a couple of fashion books and my beloved Frank Sinatra book that was a gift from my dad.

Decorative objects are great for interest and possibly color.  Small statues, antlers, shells, animals, etc., again it needs to be personal and meaningful or simply just an interesting "shape", West Elm has some cool objects.

Something "living" is always a special addition, flowers, especially an orchid plant which is organic yet structural, creates height and color.  If the table has a lower profile of objects, succulents are a great addition.

Another item that I totally dig are vintage ashtrays.  I abhor smoking, but there are some seriously cool ashtrays out there!  They have great color, shape and old Las Vegas casino ones add a touch of whimsy to the right grouping.

spring ideas for neutral interiors & 20.twelve.3 style solutions

I love spring!  Well I love this spring!  Sometimes spring in Colorado is an extension of winter, but we are experiencing a truly spectacular spring this year.  I transitioned my closet last weekend from winter to spring/summer and yesterday I did a little interior
re-freshing.

One of the easiest re-freshes is to change pillow covers.  The samples above are for a neutral interior; neutral paint as well as neutral furnishings.  There are a number of affordable resources for pillows; Cost + World Market, Pier 1, CB2,West Elm, Target, etc.  Often times you can purchase pillow covers separately and use the pillow inserts you already have from winter pillows, this is a great money saver.

My other simple re-fresh is colorful "art".  You can use color paper, fabric swatches or my favorite silk paper, to inject a pop of color and interest in any room, again for little money.  Use a clip frame with your choice of "art", they are inexpensive and available in different sizes.

If you have questions and need a little guidance with your spring re-fresh, I am available to help:

A flat $15 fee for up to 3 questions, and the sweet part is that all 3 questions do not have to be asked at one time! You can text, call or e-mail a question. Send me pictures, so when you are out shopping and you see something but aren't sure, call me!

What to do: Contact me Mon. thru Sat., 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, at 303.718.2765, text or call. If I do not answer, please leave a message and I will get back to you within an hour. Pay for your questions on the Interior Style Solutions page and as soon as I receive payment confirmation, I will call you right back to help!

part 2: furniture placement, oh so important

Okay, builders obviously build, they don't design or style, so working with what one has is imperative to a functionable, comfortable and stylish home.  This family room (mine) is a squarish, 13 x 14.  I angled my sofa because the room is quite roomy, which makes for great movie watching and snuggling!  Behind the sofa is a bar and there are three windows near the fireplace.  I even have a smallish bookcase behind the chair and a small table with a large fig tree in the corner between the fireplace and t.v. armoire windows.  My room has stuff, but it is still comfortable and stylish.  A more rectangular room, or smaller, might not be as easy to use angles, but give it a try.

Layout 1

Same room below, with a more standard layout.  With the sofa straight facing, off the wall, the room is still cozy and spacious.  By leaving the bar in the corner, the sofa can work off the wall.  If the bar or some other type of case good wasn't in the corner, one might feel there is wasted space...

Layout 2

The room below just seems so big, wasted space and not cozy.  I realize if one has a large 60" t.v., this layout would be a little more suitable, but trust me, no matter what size of television, the angled sofa is hands down the best angle for proper cuddling...

love it, live it: item inspired entry, moroccan cement tile

I love the style of this entry, it is very Santa Barbara'ish to me.  Instead of an entry table, I chose a cabinet for the "catchall" piece.  The stunning inspiration for this space, is the Moroccan cement tile from Villa Lagoon Tile.

love it, live it: item inspired sexy mod dining room

This Sexy Mod Dining Room Style Board was inspired by the Koi Table I discovered on KOKET.  It is a glam mod table with organic, yet clean lines made of brass and marble.  The walls are a matte black with a touch of gold to add warmth and extra depth.  With the darkness of the walls I wanted a few pops of color, and of course texture, to create an intimate, sexy, mod, glam dining space.
