love it, live it: inspired interior; if Sinatra had a loft

I was inspired this week by two things; industrial loft's and Mr. Sinatra.  Frank's favorite color was orange and he wasn't just the Chairman of the Board, but of the Mid-Century...

ikea hack: nornäs nailhead cocktail table

This nifty lil number is for a client's family room, it is the Nornäs cocktail table from IKEA. I covered the top with Duck Cloth which looks lineny, and can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth. A few nail heads around the edge and a paint color wash; 1 part paint to 2 parts water brushed on then wiped off with a cotton rag.

squealishly good today: 13 lbs. of ruby red grapefruit and west elm belgian linen

There are not many things that could prompt a squeal of joy from me on a day where our high temperature is forecast to be 1°, but a 13 lb. box of Texas Ruby Reds at Wally World for $3.50 and the new Belgian Linen at West Elm, induced two squeals!
It is a known fact that I think a Master Bedroom should be simple, sexy and serene.  Simple; not a lot of pattern.  Sexy; texture, texture, texture.  Serene; soft color.  The new Belgian Linen Bedding from West Elm provides all of the above.  The 100% linen from Belgian flax has a color-washed look and gets softer with every wash.  Seriously, is there anything sexier than bedding that looks lived in?  Stuffy, stiff comforters and bedspreads, eh, not so much...
These are my favorite colors:
Natural Flax
Platinum

White

Pale Harbor

Slate
This new line consists of Duvet Covers and Shams (including Euro), as well as Quilts (my choice for summer) and Quilted Shams.

it's personal...art

I have always told my clients, "art is personal".  If a client wants me to choose art for their styling, I will, but my rule of thumb in general is that they select the art, because art is sooooo very personal.  My taste in art is very simple, normal, easy on the eye, pleasant, when you look at it you know what it is, no one has to explain to you what it means and it generally does not cause nightmares.

Of course I realise if you are wealthy, art is an investment, but why does it have to be ugly? I am not wealthy.  When I am, I still will not invest in ugly art.  I will invest in fabulous furniture, fashion and shoes!  One of my wall's, below, consists of art purchased from E-Bay. The pieces are pretty and visually pleasing, but I chose them because I like them and they fit my style.

Below is a client's parlour wall.  The art consists of an inherited, amazing 100 year old cork carving (lower left) , a gift from a friend (far right, over 75 years old), a $5 watercolor from a sidewalk artist at the Met (top center), a Picasso poster and a $1.50 watercolor from a Colorado Springs 5 &10 back in the 60's.  And it's fabulous!

love it, live it: fashion inspired lounge

This week's Style Board was inspired by Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2014.  It is a sexy and glam lounge grounded with natural texture (an ode to the amazing landscape that is Italy).

love it, live it: item inspired dressing room, domino.com

I have noticed more and more lately that various items of clothing are not making it into my closet.  They are hanging on hooks, doors and the closet frame.  Let's face it, we buy clothing because clearly we are attracted to it.  We like looking at it, so why hide it in a closet?  Unfortunately at this time I do not have a spare room to transform into a a fabulous dressing room, but if I did...

the item that inspired this dressing room was the rug.  Available on Domino for an amazing discounted price.
