west elm october 2016...

oh so squealishly good!

A few of my favorite pieces from the new season at West Elm:

This Oversized Geo throw in Dark Mandarin looks so cozy and classic, rather Hermes'ish.

Lola (love the name) Tufted Sofa is glam in style and mod in color.

I am loving the bronze legs on the Mid-Century Dining Chair and the Astek Collection Wallpaper in Green Quartz Stone would tickle even Tony Duquette's fancy.

"Posh Poufs" indeed!  Mongolian Lamb Stool

Glass, Brass, Bronze, Velvet, Turquoise...LOVE!

Luxe Gold Cork Wallpaper.

Graphic cool, Brass Geo Inlay Storage by Roar + Rabbit.

Linen is my go to for bedding, but a Silk Velvet Duvet Cover for winter, Oh Yes!

Navy, grey, brass and copper; a warm Mod-Glam.

The Uptown Table and Chair are fantastic pieces, but the Gershwin credenza is a true showstopper.

Gotham Armoire, enough said.

The best thing about high ceilings, the Drape Pendant.

The Origami Leather Sofa is like the perfect black leather jacket.

Bravo West Elm, Bravo!

love it, live it: man room, inspired by men with beards

In this man room, you will not find a reclining sofa, as a matter of fact you will not find a reclining anything.  I have secretly replaced reclining things with ottoman's covered in hide.  The media unit provides ample space for media things and cool guy stuff.  The lighting is speakeasy'ish in an updated modern version.
A little rugged.  A little playful.  A little gentlemanly.  Beards welcome.

love it, live it: neutral contempo dining room

I was inspired by a photo I took on Monday during my run, a pretty white "poppy weed".  The photo is black and white, mostly grey, but I wanted to add a touch of neutrality with the table and rug to make the room more warm, and to represent the grass behind the flower.

love it, live it: item inspired dressing room, domino.com

I have noticed more and more lately that various items of clothing are not making it into my closet.  They are hanging on hooks, doors and the closet frame.  Let's face it, we buy clothing because clearly we are attracted to it.  We like looking at it, so why hide it in a closet?  Unfortunately at this time I do not have a spare room to transform into a a fabulous dressing room, but if I did...

the item that inspired this dressing room was the rug.  Available on Domino for an amazing discounted price.

retro romance: modernism

If you could pick a decade, or a span of 10 years, what would it be?  For me it is hands down, never wavering, late 50's to late 60's, 1957 to 1967.  Music, fashion, interiors, you name it, this was a time of style.  Life, to me, seemed easier back then.  Maybe easier is the wrong word, but families actually spent time together, not at the soccer field, but at home.  The family unit was tight, but it didn't mean the adults didn't have fun, enter the cocktail party (which has a history of it's own, a future "Retro Romance" installation).

Before I can jump into my decade, we must go back; 1898/99 with Richard Riemershmid a founding member of the Deutscher Werkbund (1907).  The Deutscher Werkbund helped to promote German design while many of the ideas were used later in the Bauhaus movement.

Richard Riemerschmid's first furniture was in the style of neo-Gothic.  In these pieces you can see the clean modern lines, somewhat organic but without "decoration".  Along with furniture design, Richard Riemerschmid was also an architect and an interior decorator, a pattern we will see with other pioneers within the evolution of modern design.

love it, live it: color inspired interior, white lounge

Okay, I know "white" is not technically a color...

but thanks to Syrie Maugham, rooms filled with varying shades of white, even cutlery had white porcelain handles; remained fresh and warm, not austere and cold.

working on...retro romance: interior style, 1950's

I am squealishly excited about the first Interior Style installment for the Retro Romance series.  Through this series we will learn that design; fashion, interior, furniture, etc., doesn't just "happen", it is created.  There is a reason and a function.  And there is style, boy is there style.

a few of my favorite...spaces, lonny 2013

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays and another year coming to a close, my mind tends to shut down on the present and starts to focus on the future.  In order to get ready for the new year, I take with me the good while putting the bad and ugly to bed.  I will take with me into 2014 the things that mattered; lessons learned (personal and professional), dreams to work on, making my life "the good life", and Frank Sinatra in my ear telling me "The Best is yet to Come".

I have also been inspired in 2013, by people, places and things...
