love it, live it: item inspired interior, mod glam bedroom

This cheetah leopard chiffon inspired bedroom was supposed to be rustic glam, but when I saw the amazing nightstand, well everything went out the window, including the cheetah chiffon!  The leopard chiffon curtain, serves as a "wall" for the bed floating more towards the middle of the room with a dressing area behind.  Not too girly, not too manly,
just right!

interior goodness: stunning brooklyn brownstone of frencesca connolly

This week's home makes me squeal...a lot!  The home of one of the Remodelista founders, Francesca Connelly.  Architect Steven Harris and interior designer Lucien Rees Roberts.

The home just has an amazing vibe; cool, glam and oh so livable. Being that it is a Brownstone from the 1890's, it started off with great bones. This brings me to a serious peeve that I have with "new homes", they have absolutely no character. Builders would be smart to build of the premises of older homes be it a Brownstone or a 50's California Ranch, quality and style over quantity and size...

Yes, Brownstones have high ceilings, but they are just that, ceilings.  They are flat.  They can be adorned with gorgeous lighting or accessorized with fabulous molding...unlike the monstrosity that is known as the cathedral ceiling, ridiculous angles of waisted space where heat hides.  Yeah, I don't like them!  Come on builders, get it together.

love it, live it: color inspired interior, soft fern

This week's Style Board is inspired by Soft Fern, a stunning greenish grey, one of my fave colors.  It is the perfect "spa" color for bathrooms and I have also used it in a large, open hall.  I could stare at it for hours!

fit food: oatmeal with berries and nuts

I was not a fan of oatmeal growing up.  Sure I would go through stages eating Apples & Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal from time to time, but "regular" oatmeal was not a friend of mine.  I have to blame myself, I would drag my feet in the morning to eat it, so it would be cold and pasty, bleh...well, with a little inspiration from Starbucks, I am now an oatmeal lovah!

T's Oatmeal with Berries and Nuts

1/8 C steel cut oats
3-1/8 C amounts of old fashioned oatmeal
(A total of 1/2 C oatmeal)
1/4 C frozen blueberries
1/2 C hot water
1/8 C dried cranberries
1/8 C walnuts
2 T brown sugar

Place the oatmeal and blueberries in a bowl, preferably one with a lid.  Add the hot water and set timer for five minutes.  After three minutes, add the remaining ingredients, put the lid back on for the last two minutes.  Stir.  I also add a splash of cream.

If you are familiar with steel cut oats, you know they cook for about 25-30 minutes, not exactly conducive to a quick breakfast.  By only cooking for five minutes, they add a fun chewy texture.  You may want to adjust the water, depending on how thick you like your oatmeal, I like mine thick, so even a little less than 1/2 C works due to a little moisture coming from the frozen blueberries.

Enjoy!

interior goodness: man style

My cousin in Phoenix just bought a condo, so I will be helping him style it.  The styling of a bachelor pad has a special, if not tricky, balance; masculine yet stylishly comfy and girlfriend friendly...

I have only seen the canvas of the space, waiting for photos of his existing pieces, but I thought I would take a look on Google for some Man Cave inspiration.

The first thing that comes to mind is leather.  The second thing is dark, lack of color.  These of course are assumptions of men caves.  Leather is great in any interior, especially in a rich cognac.  Grey is good great!  His walls are actually white, so I was thinking of a grey/green accent wall, but after seeing the following photos...

(Yes, this these two are the same space, different decor, I dig them both!)
The white walls work, especially with the "darker" furnishings.  I'm thinking that just the trim will be getting the paint...

I'm really excited about his entry wall.  We have a lot of great old family photos that would make for a great gallery wall.

Forget man cave, this is a fantastic dining area for any small space!
