spring ideas for neutral interiors & 20.twelve.3 style solutions

I love spring!  Well I love this spring!  Sometimes spring in Colorado is an extension of winter, but we are experiencing a truly spectacular spring this year.  I transitioned my closet last weekend from winter to spring/summer and yesterday I did a little interior
re-freshing.

One of the easiest re-freshes is to change pillow covers.  The samples above are for a neutral interior; neutral paint as well as neutral furnishings.  There are a number of affordable resources for pillows; Cost + World Market, Pier 1, CB2,West Elm, Target, etc.  Often times you can purchase pillow covers separately and use the pillow inserts you already have from winter pillows, this is a great money saver.

My other simple re-fresh is colorful "art".  You can use color paper, fabric swatches or my favorite silk paper, to inject a pop of color and interest in any room, again for little money.  Use a clip frame with your choice of "art", they are inexpensive and available in different sizes.

If you have questions and need a little guidance with your spring re-fresh, I am available to help:

A flat $15 fee for up to 3 questions, and the sweet part is that all 3 questions do not have to be asked at one time! You can text, call or e-mail a question. Send me pictures, so when you are out shopping and you see something but aren't sure, call me!

What to do: Contact me Mon. thru Sat., 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, at 303.718.2765, text or call. If I do not answer, please leave a message and I will get back to you within an hour. Pay for your questions on the Interior Style Solutions page and as soon as I receive payment confirmation, I will call you right back to help!

spring skin prep

The temp in Denver at this moment is 77°, wait, a squealishly good 77° While, yes I moisturize my skin all year long, but the thought of strappy sandals and skin baring sleeveless tops/shorts/skirts/dresses, launches my skin prep excitement into overdrive!
Starting in the shower; a sugar or salt scrub at least once a week to exfoliate, especially before date night.  I love this one from Tree Hut since it detoxifies as well with charcoal.  I recently purchased a sugarcane scrub from Bath & Body Works, Cool Amazon Rain, that I really like too.  I have been using Banana Boat Summer Color for years, mostly on my legs since my arms get a little color (even with an SPF 50) while being outdoors.  I have also been using Vaseline Cocoa Radiant as my everyday moisturizer for awhile now.  Now for date night, my go to is Organix Moroccan Argan Dry Body Oil.  You can use it in the shower, after the shower while still damp (my preferred method) or in a bath.

Strappy sandal foot prep...again I do this year round a couple nights a week.  A foot soak of ½ C Epsom Salt ($1 a bag at Dollar Tree) and ½ C apple cider vinegar to soften and detoxify.  After the soak I use either Aquaphor, for very dry, or Vegetable Glycerin for general softening covered with cotton socks until bedtime.  This is seriously a very economic spa treatment to keep your footsies touchably soft!

grilled asian salmon & asparagus with lemon garlic smashed taters

This is a new fave!  So I'll get right to it...

Grilled Asian Salmon & Asparagus

1# asparagus
2 T rice wine vinegar
2 T honey
2 T soy sauce
4 tsp. canola oil
4 garlic cloves, grated
12 oz salmon, 4-3 oz. fillets
Lemon slices

Blanch thin asparagus for two minutes, longer for thicker.  Submerge in an ice bath, then drain.  Combine vinegar through garlic and whisk thoroughly.  I like to pierce my salmon so a little more of the marinade gets in, but this is your option.  In a container large enough to hold all fillets, add about 2/3 to 3/4 of the marinade.  In a seperate container, combine the asparagus with the remaining marinade.  Marinade the salmon and asparagus in the fridge for up to 3 hours.

Heat grill to 400°, grill salmon 3-4 minutes each side.  After the turning the salmon over, place lemon slice on already grilled side while side 2 grills.  Either take salmon off the grill and keep warm (the oven will be warm from cooking the potatoes), or place away from the direct heat on the grill.  Place asparagus on the grill and grill for 1 minute.  With tongs, gently "stir" around careful not to lose any through the slots, and grill for 1 more minute.

Garlic Lemon Smashed Taters

Assorted baby potatoes or fingerlings, 15-20
2 T Extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves of garlic, grated or crushed
Zest of 1 lemon
S & P

Boil potatoes for 15-18 minutes, check for tenderness, you don't want them too soft.  This step can actually be done well before dinner prep, that way they are not too hot to smash.  The olive oil step can also be done in advance, so the oil is well infused; heat olive oil in a microwave for 30 seconds, then add garlic and and lemon zest.  When ready to bake, heat oven to 450°.  Smash taters with heel of hand.  Brush both sides of smashed taters with infused olive oil and sprinkle with salt and freshly ground pepper.  Bake for 12-15 minutes, then turn over and bake for another 12 minutes.

Enjoy!

(I apologize if there are any spelling errors, stupid spellcheck didn't want to work!)
